"I hope my son would be proud," said Laura Landaker of the tournament, "he honored us everyday." Jared Landaker was one of seven U.S. Marines killed on a February 7, 2007 medivac mission in Iraq. The event was sponsored by the Seven Star Foundation.

A Veteran's Valentine

  • Smiles, hugs, and salutes abounded today at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda February 16, 2011. Members of the Army, Navy and Marines were on deck to help hand out Valentines Day cards to veterans. About 2,000 cards were gathered from local churches and schools to distribute to the military.

Their names were added to a memorial placard at the school's quad to commemorate those graduates who served served in the military. The names date back to the Vietnam War.

Coming Home

  • After more than 60 years, Sgt. Robert Stinston returned home to his family for a proper burial. Funeral services with full military honors were held for Stinston at Riverside National Cemetery October 30, 2009. Stintson's remains had been discovered off the Western Pacific Island in 2004. The WWII airman, who had been shot down September 1, 1944, is survived by two brothers all of whom grew up in San Bernardino.

Veterans Memorial Wrightwood

  • Approximately 800 people including citizens, veterans, families, and friends were on hand for the Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony in Wrightwood May 23, 2009. A six-foot black granite monument was unveiled at Wrightwood Veterans Memorial Park. Citizens of theTri-Community area raised $25,000 to complete the project.
